Noninvasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT)

We offer noninvasive screening to help alleviate some of the worry that comes with childbirth. Noninvasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) is an essential part of being prepared during your pregnancy.

What is NIPT?

Noninvasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) or Noninvasive Prenatal Screening (NIPS) is a DNA test done while the mother is pregnant to determine the overall risk to the newborn of chromosomal disorders such as Down Syndrome. The test involves drawing blood from the mother and does not pose any risks to the fetus.

When should I Schedule a NIPT appointment?

It is generally advised to wait until after 10 weeks of pregnancy, so that the test is more accurate

There is always a potential for birth abnormalities for any mother, however you may be at high risk if:

  • You are over the age of 35
  • One or both parents have a chromosomal abnormality, such as Down Syndome
  • A chromosmal abnormality has been detected on another test, such as on a sonogram
